About Ashley Downes
Hello! Allow me to share a little bit about myself:
I graduated from Worcester State University with a Bachelor's degree in Communications in May 2020. My coursework included psychology, sociology, and script writing. During my time at the university I gained experience working as a Public Relations Intern for Campus Communications where I wrote articles about events happening on campus and the achievements of faculty and students. Also, I was a Digital Marketing Content Creator for a non-profit organization called Enjoin Good, where I wrote articles that promoted diversity. During my final semester, I had plenty of time to think about my future career and learn valuable skills. For example, I've been learning Japanese for a couple of years now to expand my communication skills. I'm currently pursuing a Master's in Library Information Science (MLIS) at the University of Denver. I've always enjoyed libraries and museums growing up and believe these institutions are extremely valuable to communities. Originally, this website was created for my undergraduate senior capstone (fun fact: my 2020 blogs were part of my senior capstone). In 2022, I decided to turn this into a mental health blog. The reason why I started Mind's Retreat (originally Mindfully Blogging) is because of my interest in mental health, and I wanted to share my mental health journey to help others who might be going through their own struggles with mental health as well. I'm NOT a mental health professional, and the information I provide about topics concerning mental health is from trusted sources. My blogs AREN'T meant to be a replacement for mental health services such as therapy. If you have any questions, please email me at adowneswriting@gmail.com. |
